Three ways a bet gets placed for somebody else
Proxy wagers are not one thing. A friend may place it while the two are sitting together, a paid agent may place it over months for clients who never open an account, or an account may be opened in one name and operated entirely by another person. The three differ in who chose the bet, who funded it and how much of the arrangement the operator could ever see.

A bet is placed for somebody else in one of three arrangements: by a friend or family member sitting beside the chooser (620 of 900 sampled), by a paid agent acting for clients who hold no account (180), or through an account opened in one name and run entirely by another person (100).
| arrangement | who chooses the bet | who funds it | what the operator sees |
|---|---|---|---|
| friend or family | the person beside the holder | usually the chooser own rail | an ordinary holder bet |
| paid agent | the client, and the agent prices it | the client, through the agent float | an ordinary holder bet, repeated |
| nominee account | the operator of the account | mixed, often the operator own | a holder who is only a name |
| in all three the holder is the chooser of the bet in none of the 900 cases | 0 | ||
- Nothing at all - in 860 of 900 the operator flags nothing and the arrangement stays invisible.
- A rail mismatch - a card that is not the holder raises 40 flags.
- A document request - 96 wagers bring a request for proof of the source of funds.
- A refused withdrawal - 34 are refused because the destination does not match the holder.
- A closed account - 22 accounts are closed outright when a nominee arrangement is found.
The size of the bet does not separate them
A proxy wager is as likely to be a 20.00 bet among friends as a 2,000.00 order for a client. What separates the three arrangements is not the amount but the record: a friend leaves none, an agent keeps a book and a nominee account leaves one only when it is found.
